1.
Paul is telling Timothy here that there will be trying and
difficult times in his ministry. Also there will be trying times
through out our walk of life No matter what we are called to do for
God. Only by Gods Grace and mercy will be able to stand for him.
Don’t you find it very hard today, that when you tell someone about
Christ they look at you like so what? People in the world today seem
to have no cares, just what they can gain here on earth.
2.
Paul is telling Timothy here not only should he seek strength
form the Lord, But it is his responsibility to provide spiritual
Strength to others by the inspired teaching of the word of God.
Timothy was to commit these teaching unto faithful Men. Those that
will take a stand and carry on with Gods word. Isn’t this Gods will
for us also today, to stand strong on the word of God and to help
others that are willing to take a stand for Christ and to carry on
Gods work.
3.
We need to endure any and all hardships that we go through as
a soldier would endure. A soldier that has to endure a battle, when
it gets tough he does not run from the battle he gets tougher so
that he can endure the battle, so that they might win the fight.
Jesus Christ endure the greatest hardship of all when he died on
cavalry for our sins and because did he won the battle over death,
hell and the grave.
4.
As a good Soldier for Jesus Christ we should always be ready
to fight. Be on the lookout and be ready for the battle and not to
concern ourselves with the things of the world. Kept focuses on Gods
will and pray that we would never weaver from it.
5.
As a good Soldier for Christ we need to master our duties.
Does not a Ball player work hard to master the game and when he does
he is rewarded or giving a trophy for his hard work. How much more
will God give unto those that are faithful with what he has asked of
us to do.
6.
Here is verse 6 it is saying the farmer must work his crops,
the soldier must endure the battle and the athlete must play by the
rules. We as Christians must work, endure and to the work that the
lord has entrusted us to do if we want to be a partaker of his
kingdom.
7.
Consider what the word of God says, read and study Gods word
and also be doers not just hearers and understanding wisdom and
knowledge in all things even in the hard times when you think that
it is impossible to go on for the Lord, all things are possible
through Jesus Christ.
8.
Paul is saying to Timothy to always be in remembrance of
Jesus Christ the seed of David and that he arose and is alive today.
Always be in remembrance of the work that Jesus Christ done while
here on earth. Jesus Christ also reached the glory of heaven by the
way of the cross and the grave. We too must also accept and believe
that Jesus Christ was the son of God and that he was sent to die for
our sins upon and old rugged cross a perfect sacrifice without sin.
9.
Paul at one time was a evil doer and even a common criminal
and he persecuted the Christians at one time. Paul later was put
into prison by the Romans and even facing death but Gods word is not
bound even when he was. No Nation, No Army or can any one person
even Satan can stop the word of God from going forth throughout the
world. It can not be chained many have tried and many are still
trying today but they will not succeed in stopping the word of God.
10. We must keep on keeping on for
the glory of God and for the elect’s sake. We must warn those that
are lost and confused. Gods has never wanted anyone person to die in
a lost state. But men or woman chose there faith where the choose
life with God or Death and suffering and hell. One day if we endure
for Christ to the end we too will be able to partake in the Eternal
Glory of Jesus Christ for throughout eternity.
11. If we are dead in Christ what is
this saying. Its saying that when we accepted Jesus Christ as our
savior it was then that we died out from sin and the worlds way of
thinking and we took on the way of Jesus Christ and his way of
thinking. When we accept Christ we where buried with him and then we
rose again from among the dead. Jesus Christ died as our
representative and was our substitute. We should have died our own
selves for our own sins. When we accept Christ as our Savior Gods
reckons us or see us like we have died with Christ and so shall we
also be with him in glory.
12. Pretty simple here if we suffer
for him so shall we reign with him and if we deny Christ so shall he
deny us.
13. God is forever more consistent
with his word. We are either faithful or unfaithful and God can not
treat the faithful and the unfaithful alike. God righteousness and
glory will be with those that are faithful. Would you give a trophy
or the first place prize to the one that did not give his all or
even try and came in last place the prize? Neither will God give
equal rights to the unbeliever.
14. We are to read and speak of the
word of God and to keep each other in remembrance of the word and to
remind us what God has written here and to charge us with the truth.
Strive not which is meaning not to quarrel about the word of God and
the meaning of it between the brothering. But to the subverting of
the hearers with mean the destroying of the hearers. We can destroy
the hearers by babbling and arguing about the word of God.
15. Study the Bible and its meaning
so that you will know what the word is yourself. You will have no
reason to be ashamed if you show yourself read up and study up and
knowing what the truth is.
16. Stay away from profane and idle
talk for both of these useless and evil and only lead to more
ungodliness and can even lead you to destruction.
17. &18. They had the truth, but
erred or wandered from it, saying the resurrection was already past,
and thus denying the resurrection of the body, and this was sapped
to the foundation of the word of God. Like cancer eating away at
your body it caused others to stray from the word.
19. But the word of God will stand
throughout eternity having its seal. Those that know God will stand
in righteousness and profess that he is a child of the God and God
will know us and call us by name. Not having anything to do with
unrighteousness or worldly things, but departing from all evil.
20. We can look at this scripture as
saying a great house having inside the house those that know and
those that profess to know what the book says. Silver and gold
meaning those that truly have study and knows what the word of God
says and wood and clay referring to those that merely think that
they know, but have not studied or read the word of God to truly
know and understand what they are professing.
21. Here we see Paul is telling
Timothy to fee from evil and to keep himself from those who teach
not the word of God. God wants us to be a vessel of honor. God can
only use those who are clean, sanctified and set apart from evil.
Only then can we be a good and useful servant for the master. We are
to be prepared for every good work and be ready for whatever God is
calling upon you do.
22. We have to separate ourselves
from youthful lust such as money, fame, pleasure, selfwill,
impatience, pride and of any unholy desires of the flesh.
Righteousness means to be honest and fair with the believer and the
unbeliever, Faith mean total dependents upon God, Love means
unselfishness and peace means Harmony. We are to walk among fellow
Christians and not with the unbelievers.
23. Do not waste your time trying to
answer silly and stupid questions. Refuse to answer for it will only
lead to a dispute and stir up strife for they are just silly
questions that waste time and cause problems.
24. Strive means struggle
in opposition. We must patient with those who want to argue because
they are slow to understand and do not know the truth of Gods word.
25. Any person that refuses to hear
and understand the word of God wrongs his own soul. God is waiting
even to forgive them that will come and confess and repent. God does
not withhold repentance from anyone, but men are so often unwilling
to admit that they where wrong.
26. We as Christians should talk to these confused men and woman
that they might see the truth and come to there
senses and escape the snare of Satan. They have been taken captive
and blinded by him to do his will.
